SOUTHERN AFRICAN SESSIONS / DECEMBER – A DARING DECEMBER!
Propel Africa has always prided itself on exciting, unusual activities for clients and every year end party ends up with Propel Africa staff being used as “lab rats” as we experiment with new activities and client products. This year was no exception…with a distinct “water” based theme being thread through the end of year festivities…
The day started with a chaotically childish visit to the unique Two Oceans Aquarium (www.aquarium.co.za ). Chaotic because Propel Africa teamed up with Colleen’s Place of Hope (www.areachinghand.com ), to take the orphaned kids for a day out to the aquarium. We assigned the project leaders into various groups with the directive that they were to return through the aquariums exit with at least 80% of the kids they started with. The kids had an absolute blast. My group couldn’t get enough of the “touching pool”, where the kids got to feel slimy star-fish, pinch some crabs and stroke a ray. Dennis had a lively bunch and his troubles had only begun when we gave the kids a good sugar boost with a visit to the ice cream parlour. All in all we had a great day with the kids at the aquarium and once again were reminded on the great experience an often maligned attraction like an aquarium can offer.
Thereafter we were off to the wine lands (only 1 hour outside of Cape Town) and visited the vintage Warwick Estate (www.warwickwine.com ). In keeping with all things “aquatic” we got down and boogied with local muso hero’s “Watershed” as they jammed out in the wine estates cellar. The estate offers idealic views over the Hottentots Holland Mountains. They offer a great “Big 5 wine safari”, where guests go on an estate tour and learn about the “Big 5” grape varieties, wine tastings in the cellar and end off with a picnic on the lawns. We’re always on the lookout for new, intimate unusual wine farms that produce unique wines. Warwick is one such wine farm.
